Whenever in Lucknow, one must visit Chowk (Old Lucknow).
The place is unique as it has an ancient feel to it. I visited Chowk with family & friends and really enjoy going there especially as a foodie. The food served here hasn’t changed a bit. It tastes the same (which is great!) and the people love it. Cheap and very tasty.
For the Non-Veg lovers, its a heaven! Every kind of dish, be it Biryani, Nehari, Kebabs, each and every one of them tastes really good.
The very important place to visit is Bada Imambada. This historical monument is the tourist attraction here. Its Mosque and the Lybarinth is famous among the people.
As for having food, I’ve visited two of the famous eateries of Chowk. The first one is Raheem’s. Here’s the review that I wrote on Zomato:
After my semester exams got over, I decided to visit Chowk with my friends. The day was Friday and we didn’t remember that Bada Imambada will be opened after 2 pm, as we went there too early. So, to kill the time, for lunch we decided to visit Raheem Hotel. Situated inside a very narrow lane, it is difficult to find this place.
The ambiance is ok. The seating place is very small but they have seating on the upper floor too for the ladies and the kitchen is out in the opening. If you are visiting this place for the first time, then you should keep in mind that they don’t give menu cards at the table. So, decide what you want to eat or better ask the server himself.
We ordered Chicken Korma, Sheermal and Mutton Biryani.
Chicken Korma: It is a dish of chicken braised in a spiced sauce made with yogurt, cream, nut or seed paste. There are various versions of this dish. The one I had here was amazing!
Sheermal: It is a saffron-flavoured flatbread. After so many years I had Sheermal and it was really nice.
Mutton Biryani: One of the most iconic dishes of Lucknow, this biryani was the best. The mutton was really soft and was great! Really recommended here.
The service was really quick! You’ll only have to wait for 5 minutes for your order to be served.
Total Experience: 4/5
This is the place you should visit for having really nice Non Veg dishes.
The second place I visited was Mubeen’s. Here’s the review that I wrote on Zomato:
One fine day I decided to visit Chowk with my family. We roamed around there till 3 pm and decided to visit Mubeen’s for lunch. Situated in a very narrow lane, you’ll need some help from auto waalas or GPS to find it. The ambiance is ok, not very good. But the seating space consists of two floors.
We ordered Sheermal, Roomali Roti, Pasanda Kebab, Chicken Korma, Mutton Nihari and Chicken Biryani.
Sheermal and Roomali Roti: Both the Roti’s were good. Now whenever I go out to eat, I always order Sheermal because I have started enjoying it!
Pasanda Kebab: A Chicken Kebab which is served just like Chicken Tikka, with Chaat Masala on the top. The Kebabs were really good! I ate it along with Sheermal. Tasted very good!
Chicken Korma: It is a dish of chicken braised in a spiced sauce made with yogurt, cream, nut or seed paste. There are various versions of this dish. The one served here was ok-ok.
Mutton Nihari: Nihari is a stew consisting of slow-cooked meat mainly beef or lamb along with bone marrow. Here, Mutton Nihari was a bit spicy and tasted great! A MUST have here!
Chicken Biryani: Biryani is loved by everyone, I assume. So, when you visit any restro which serves Non Veg dishes and is famous for that, it is a must to order a Biryani. I ordered Chicken Biryani here and the one which was served here was really yum ! Lucknow is famous for its Non Veg cuisine and the Biryani served here is too damn great!
Total Experience: 4/5
When visiting Chowk, this is the best place to have a good meal. Waiting for the next visit!
I always have great time when visiting Chowk!
